Helical CT Angiography

Helical CT scanning allows acquisition of volumetric data (rather than single slices). Data can be post processed for reformation into other planes, surface display, and blood vessel delineation (CT angiography).

Multislice helical CT pulmonary angiogram reveals thromboembolism (blood clot) throughout the right middle lobe pulmonary artery (arrow). CT pulmonary angiography is now commonly used instead of nuclear medicine V/Q scan for detection of pulmonary emboli.

This 3D volume rendered CT angiogram of left carotid bifurcation demonstrates high grade stenosis at the origin of the left internal carotid artery.

A fusiform abdominal aortic aneurysm originating just below the take off of the superior mesenteric artery is well demonstrated.

This patient was post cardiac catheterization and developed a pulsatile mass in the right groin. The CT angiogram demonstrates a pseudoaneurysm from the right superficial femoral artery as well as A-V fistula to common femoral vein.

Cine MRA- Aortic Disection

Bolus gadolinium, oblique sagittal breathhold acquisition MR images of the aorta reveal a disection of the descending thoracic aorta. (Movies are best viewed when set to "Loop".)

MRI Cardiac Cine

Normal cines of mitral valve (note trace tricuspid insufficiency) , Short axis LV function , and lower resolution multi-level axial cines are done in real time without gating.

 

Pulmonary MRA

This breathhold acquisition during dynamic IV gadolinium demonstrates the pulmonary arteries arcading into the primary and secondary branches. The individual 1.5 mm slices must be carefully evaluated for the presence of filling defects (pulmonary emboli).

 

Takayusu's Disease

Breathhold bolus gadolinium MRA demonstrates smooth narrowing of the right subclavian and left common carotid arteries. The abdominal vessels appear unremarkable.

 

MRA Runoff

The aortoiliac arteries and diffuse SFA disease is well demonstrated on these breathhold bolus gadolinium images. MRI can substitute for conventional angiography in evaluating patients with claudication.

 

MRA Abdominal aorta

Breathhold bolus gadolinium image reveals normal aorta and normal bilateral kidney excretion. Note the celiac axis and SMA branching off the aorta on this mesenteric MRA.
